Teejay’s 25th Anniversary

TeeJay Publishers celebrated its 25th Anniversary on the 1st of February 2019 and had a very enjoyable party for friends and family last weekend.

It started way back on the 1st of February 1994 with a series of photocopiable Homework sheets and 5-14 support packs to accompany the then famous Heinemann Maths Scheme that was in 99% of all schools back then. (Not so now !)

Tom and John Strang’s company name TeeJay Publishers (or TJ for short) became established, and almost every Primary school in Scotland invested in these support resources.
Similar photocopy packs were written for Secondary Teachers including their famous “Ultimate Foundation, General, Credit, Higher and Advanced Higher Support Packs” which were purchased by almost every Secondary School.

So when TeeJay brought out their first two books General 3G and 4G in 2002, they were already established, and over the years sold about 80000 of each.

This was followed by their 5-14 Book E for Secondaries, which became so successful in both Primary and Secondary schools that they embarked on the production of the 5-14 series B, C, D, E, Eft and F, then A, followed by Int-2-Credit books 1 and 2, Intermediate 1 and Access 3 for Secondary pupils.

Their success took off exponentially with the introduction of the now infamous Curriculum for All, when their older resources were updated and replaced by the CfE books, 1A, 1B, 2A, 2B then 3A and 3B. This was followed by the new National books, N4-1, N4-2, Nat 4 Lifeskills, CfE 4+, N5 and Nat 5 Lifeskills. They now corner around 95% of the Maths market on Scotland and Tom likes to proudly point out that almost every child from ages 5-18 at some point will use a TeeJay resource almost every school day.

And finally, this year, they completed the suite with their new Higher Book

An amazing 25 years production. They feel extremely proud of what they have done for Core Mathematics teaching in Scotland.
